Detailed planning of lifting and transport operations
Market growth and strict safety and quality requirements mean that a steadily increasing number of customers are demanding detailed planning with written procedures and documentation in advance of operations. Planning a lifting operation in detail using 3D computer simulations means in practice that our engineers will review and quality assure the entire lifting operation before it is carried out. This review allows us to easily verify the feasibility of all stages of an operation. Tools allow us to plan precisely where the crane needs to be, check the height of the lift and the clearance necessary to avoid obstacles, and also document the crane’s capacity at all stages. This also constitutes an extra risk assessment in addition to the obligatory risk assessment that is always carried out by our operators before each and every operation. As a provider of lifting and transport services we traditionally become involved at the final stage of a project once construction elements have been prefabricated and are ready for installation. At this stage of a project all the general conditions have been defined long ago and we are often forced to use less cost-effective solutions and equipment for the installation work. We therefore offer our customers consultancy services that enable them to take advantage of our special expertise in lifting and transport through the delivery of an installation study.
The scope of an installation study varies according to the needs of the customer and includes advice in the form of evaluations of alternative installation solutions. In this phase different alternative installation methods are compared based on criteria such as feasibility, execution time, total costs, risks, uncertainty, etc. This provides customers with a solid basis on which to choose the right design that results in the most cost-effective and safe execution of the project. At the same time, customers often gain useful information about possible design changes that can make new, efficient installation methods feasible.
