A large lifting vessels were booked for installation of a new living quarter, and a crane was needed to prepare the area for the new module.
Nordic Crane Stangeland was contacted by Aibel with the desire to rent a 220 t crane. The engineering department immediately began work on designing a large temporary foundation for the crane. After a brief period of planning on land, Nordic Crane was sent offshore to survey the area, and also investigate the possibility of alternative solutions. During the offshore survey, an alternative location of the crane were identified which meant significantly less risk to the operation of the platform and required a smaller crane.
Nordic Crane designed a new foundation that was produced and delivered in record time. Rigging of the crane was a challenge since the area was partly without crane coverage. The over one hundred -ton crane had to be split into items of less than 15 tonnes and installed using rollers and jacks as well as other crane platform.
Mobile crane and foundation were delivered, and the installation was completed as planned. At the moment the crane in the process of completing the final lifts. Finally the crane will be demobilized and returned to shore prior to installation of the new living quarter.
